Journal Les Affaires - ETFs: Thematic investing and smart beta
Dominique Lamy of the Journal Les Affaires writes an article (in French only) entitled "Bon, pas bon, d'investir par thématique? Quatre experts se prononcent" on page i-4 of the April 18th 2015 publication. The article gives the opinion of four experts on ten uncommon Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) strategies. Ian Gascon, president of Idema Investments, explains why most of these strategies are unlikely to benefit investors over the long term.
In the same publication, on page i-5, Yves Bourget writes an article (in French only) entitled "La stratégie du bêta intelligent" that analyses the potential benefits of alternative weighting schemes such as fundamental investing. This article includes comments made by Ian Gascon as recent ETF Forum earlier this year that calls into question the added value of some of these strategies when they are offered at a high cost.
